Tallahatchie's
Deeper now

The story, the song...

Like the wind, which shows that you can be very strong unseen, so were the heroes in the civil rights movement in the 50s and 60s.

Like Mamie Till, Emmett's mama, was strong after he was murdered in the Deep South. Like Mamie Till was strong when the killers were acquitted before a white jury. Like Mamie Till was strong when her son was shown to the world in an open casket. Like Mamie Till was strong to keep telling her son's story.

Tallahatchie's Deeper Now is an indictment of violence and a tribute to the strong women in our world.

The song was written by Mermaid Moonshine, based on lyrics by Devery S. Anderson. Devery is the author of "The Book: Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement," used as the basis in "The Series: Women of the Movement," on ABC/Hulu.

Music and singing were recorded in Natchez, MS and the footage was shot in Greenwood, MS, on the banks of the Tallahatchie River, the river where Emmett was found.

The river deepened by the tears of many.
